  • 7. Submit certified documents

    By Dutch law, you must obtain your Bachelor’s (and/or Master’s) degree prior to the start of the (Pre-)master's programme. The Admissions Office needs to verify whether you have successfully completed your previous education. We need to receive digital copies of your final transcripts and degree certificates, so we can check them.

    What is a certified document?

    A certified document is an official copy of the original document provided by an authorised department of your institution of higher education or an authorised notary.

    1) I have a Dutch degree

    If you will complete or have completed your previous education at the University of Amsterdam or another Dutch institution of higher education, the Admissions Office will verify your graduation in SIS or DUO. You do not have to send us your certified documents, unless stated otherwise in your conditional admission letter. Once your graduation has been checked, your conditional admission will be converted into an unconditional offer.

    It may take several weeks for your university to register your graduation.

    Have you completed all courses of your Bachelor's (and/or Master’s) programme, but is your graduation not yet officially registered? Then we also accept a graduation statement, sent by an authorised department at your institution of higher education.

    Below, you can find more information regarding the graduation statement.

    2) I have a non-Dutch degree

    What kind of certified documents do you need to send us?

    • Digital copies of your original higher education diploma(s)
    • Digital copies of your original final transcript(s)

    Please note that:

    • Documents that are not written in Dutch, English, German or French, must be accompanied by an official translation to English made by a sworn translator or a notary.
    • You have to send in certified documents of all previous (Bachelor's and/or Master's) programmes that you applied with. More information on which documents to send and what deadline applies to you can be found in your conditional admission letter sent by the admissions office.

    Graduation statement
    If your diploma will not be issued before the deadline you can submit a graduation statement instead. In this graduation statement your home institution needs to declare that you have met all graduation requirements and have graduated from your Bachelor's and/or Master's degree, stating your exact graduation date.

    The document should be on official letterhead of your home institution and has to contain the following information:

    • First (given) name and Last name;
    • Date of birth;
    • Country of birth;
    • Current Bachelor’s education;
    • That you have completely met all graduation requirements of your Bachelor’s and/or Master’s;
    • Firm graduation date;
    • Stamp and signature from a representative of your home institution.

    How to submit your certified documents?

    Through a secure portal:

    We accept certified documents sent to us through a secure portal, such as: Parchment, Digitary, Hear, E-Script, Gradintelligence, or CSSD (formerly CHESICC).

    The email address can be found in your conditional admission letter sent to you by the admissions office.

    Via email:
    We accept certified documents sent to us by an authorised department of your institution of higher education (such as the Registrar’s Office). Please ask the authorised department to send your certified documents to the email address mentioned in your conditional admission letter.

    We do not accept digital documents sent to us by students and/or from a student email address.

    What happens after we have received your documents?

    Once we have received your certified documents, we aim to verify them within 3 weeks. Upon successful verification, you will promptly receive an email confirming your unconditional admission.

    What is the deadline for submitting your documents?

    Please note that this can vary per student, as some are in need of assistance with an entrance visa or resident permit. You can find the deadline that applies to you in your conditional admission letter.

  • 8. Pay the tuition fee (after admission)

    After you have been admitted to a degree programme, you will be asked to pay your tuition fees. In order to be enrolled for your programme you must meet the requirements for each step in the enrolment process.
